RHYTHMIC STRUCTURES

“Rhythmic Structures” showcases a series of objects, integrated into a three-dimensional structure born to build a rhythmic dialogue with a specific window exhibition space. The assemblages and sculptures on display arise from the process of juxtaposing materials, manipulated or directly in their raw state, sounding out their visual characteristics, aesthetic rhythm, before being shifted by cognition, reason, culture and rhetoric.

“In a context of abundant imagery, narratives, information, and a collapse of cultural codes, there is a need to understand things as they are, not to create new representations, but to grasp parts of reality. I seek this reality by discovering new relationships between materials, their rhythms, and ultimately their beauty.”

FANTASMI for Dolomiti Contemporanee

FANTASMI ( PHANTOMS )

An elusive subject: immaterial, liminal, and in certain ways, constantly proliferating. One work takes the form of a painting - though it functions more as an allusive reference than as an example of (authentic or false?) pictorial practice. A rectangular construction, a structure - an active absence, a generator of energy clad in aluminum. Elsewhere, the suggestion of a ghostly passage: through drapes, apertures, shadows, and distortions in the real. The narrative tells us the ghost cannot help but generate another ghost; yes, the ghost is generative - not alone, no longer suspended “in the bare space achieved by an unbridgeable leap.” The generator must recognize “the place where solitude becomes intolerable, where the past stares back with inexhaustible resentment...” Only then might a “quiet conversation” begin to emerge.

Three works within a space - how to connect them? How to interpret them? Perhaps it is not necessary.

A single space? Not quite. These are multiple spaces, whose distances cannot be precisely measured. This sense of (spatial?) duplication is echoed in the analog image captured on instant film: a trace of the ghost of the real. The photograph itself becomes spectral.

A mountain, an animal - the cow - appear as the only didactic reference, and simultaneously, its opposite: symbol and, increasingly in these landscapes, ghostly presence.
